We all play games or download other applications right? Maybe you have seen them in the form of an ISO image file. It’s a rather cool process to store data in a digital form of a disc. The uses of real CD or DVD are not gone yet. Many of us still use these to store files on them just for safety purposes.
You know a finalized CD or DVD cannot carry a virus. As the disk won’t be writable again, there is no chance of spreading any virus that might have gone into it. And that makes it even cooler.
Burning a CD or DVD is pretty easy, and you may have this function by default in Windows 10. But it’s not used that much as it’s only a primary burner. So, if you want a proper burning tool that is pretty light weight and would do the work just fine, then you have come to the right place.
I’ll be giving you some best free ISO burners that will work fine in Windows 10. They are all very easy to use and very lightweight. Beware, as these might become your favorite ISO burning tools! So, let’s take a look at them.
What to do after installing Windows 10?
Active@ ISO Burner is one of the best professional looking tools. It’s a LSoft’s product which is usually pretty high. With this one, you can burn ISO and IMG files to any CD or DVD or Blu-rays. You can only drop the file in the window and click Burn. It’s as easy as that.
What I loved about this are the details it shows about every inserted file or media. You will see it on the right side of the display. There are also options for burning modes like Track-At-Once or Disk-At-Once. You can erase a rewritable disc. And the writing speed it pretty high.
Moreover, you can even write up to 100 copies in just one session. And you will find many options like auto verify and eject after a burn, erase speed and buffer under run protection in the options menu.
Though the program will offer and will try to install a driver, it’s not necessary. It will still function without it. It works pretty great in Windows 10 with an ease of service.

This ISO burner could be your next choice if you like standalone applications. That means you don’t have to install it on your computer for it to work. And BurnCDCC is just like that.
You’ll download a zip file with the standalone executable file. So, you just have to open it and click on the .exe file, and that’s it.
No unnecessary fuss about installation. And I like this one the most. It will burn the ICO files to CD, DVD, and BD. There are also options for auto eject, verifying the burned disc and finalizing the media.
So that, it becomes permanent. You can also determine the write speed, but it's best if you go with slower speed. The size is not even 100KB, so you don’t have to worry about a massive app that will slow your PC down.
Free ISO Burner is for all kind of use. It can write any files on your CD and DVD. Moreover, it’s straightforward and easy to use. You will have access to some minor options like cache size and volume label, though they are not much you can change them if necessary.
You can finalize the disc and even set the speed. It’s also portable executable and works fine in Windows 10. The thing that I didn’t like about this one is that it cannot erase a rewritable disc and will show you an error if you try that.
Other than that, it’s a cool free ISO burner.
ImgBurn can be your number one choice if you are not a rookie. It’s the most comprehensive tool among all the free ISO burners. The fact that it can write a large number of file formats to disc is extraordinary.
And you can also create ISO files from folders or other options. It supports a variety of audio file formats along with video formats. DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-ray just name it and it will get the job done.
You won’t find this amount of options in any free ISO burners. It’s small software giving you many options to try out and make the experience a good one. Though, with so many options people might get things a bit wrong.
But if you are a professional then it is the one for you. But remember it will try to install some junkware so be careful installing it.

ISOBurn is somewhat like BurnCDCC, size is tiny, but it’s not portable as BurnCDCC. You have to install it to use it. But it has an erase option that will let you have rewritable CDs or DVDs. The process is pretty quick.
You’ll have a couple of primary option that you can mark by tick boxes, but nevertheless, it’s a simple burner.
It works on any platform. So if you are looking for something incredibly simple with simple interface, then this is the right one.
It’s a Glory logic's product, and like their other products, this one comes with the best options. Just insert the disc and fire up the program. You can tweak many settings like your drive and target burning speed, multi-session disc or single, finalizing or giving the title.
And there’s a lot more where those came. After you open one up, you have to select the files or folders to get it in the system. You can even drag the files or browse to it. Here you will get an option of renaming the files before burning.
And after that just click on start burning, and that's it. The size is pretty small and consumes less power than other free ISO burners.
This one is another standalone executable program. It’s an average kind of ISO burner, but it comes with options such as Create a bootable USB disc and Unpack ISO image to disc folder.
This ISO burner makes it pretty handy in times of making a bootable USB drive. Well, but sustained drives of bootable USB are quite limited actually, but it works with some of them.
You will have an option to erase the disk and use it as a re-writable disc along with running buffer under protection and selecting optical drive as an option.
We, all the feature makes it a social program to deal with among all free ISO burners.
You could see ISO Workshop as the newer version of ImgBurn. But the primary difference is that it’s less power consuming. It comes with an excellent interface with many options just like ImgBurn.
Just like ImgBurn you can burn the files to the CD, DVD or BD and can also create an ISO file just by dragging and dropping.
Lagu kenangan 80an. I liked the feature where you can load ISO file and view or extract it. There are lots of image, audio and video formats supported for burning. The cool thing is that you burn a disc just by pressing Ctrl + W.
But be a careful as when I tried to install it tried to install adware. So, be sure to look for it during installation and avoid it.
Any Burn has a rather clean interface that the other free ISO burners. You will also have quite some functions available during burning. It supports 30 different image formats to CD, DVD, and Blu-ray media.
The thing is that you can erase a disc with this one and let along copy from disc to disc. It also offers some tweaks such as verify and auto eject.
It supports a broad range of platforms. There are two versions for you to try out: a portable one and an installer version. So that makes this one a bit different than others.
All Free ISO Burner is somewhat different than the previous free ISO burners. It runs as a wizard and will guide you along the way. So, it’s beneficial for persons that are not familiar with disc burners. I liked the interface as it’s user-friendly and colorful.
You can just follow the steps and quickly burn any files to a DVD in no time. It might try to install a toolbar. So, try to decline it if you don’t want it. Just uncheck any unnecessary tools that it ought to install.
Windows 10 Built-in Disc Image Burner
Windows has provided us with a built in burner feature. As ISO file is widely used they have given us a small feature to settle for if we don’t find any other ISO burner worthy. It’s a basic tool with no additional function.
But it will get the job done. So, if none of the above couldn’t charm you then can try it out as a last resort.
So, these were all the free ISO burners for Windows 10. They all have different features and more or less the same tweaks. But my personal favorites are ImgBurn, Active@ ISO Burner for their features and BurnCDCC, for its standalone version. But in the end, it’s up to you what you want as an ISO burner.
If you need to install Windows or Linux and you don’t have access to a CD/DVD drive, a bootable USB drive is the solution. You can boot to the USB drive, using it to run the OS setup program, just like a CD or DVD.
We have collected some links to free programs that allow you to easily setup a USB drive to install Windows or Linux on a computer.
NOTE: If you have problems getting the BIOS on your computer to let you boot from a USB drive, see our article about booting from a USB drive even if your BIOS won’t let you.
Windows USB/DVD Download Tool
Editor’s Note: if you want to create a bootable Windows install USB, this is the tool you should choose.
The Windows USB/DVD Download Tool is an official, freeware tool from Microsoft that allows you to install Windows 7 and Windows 8 and Windows 10 without having to first run an existing operating system on your computer. You can change the boot order of the drives in your computer’s BIOS so the Windows installation on your USB drive runs automatically when you turn on your computer. Please see the documentation for your computer for information about how to access BIOS and change the boot order of drives.

RELATED:How to Create a Bootable Linux USB Flash Drive, the Easy Way
Rufus is a small, portable program that allows you to create bootable USB drives for Windows and Linux. It also allows you to check the USB device for bad blocks, using up to four passes. Rufus runs in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. You can create bootable USB drives for the listed versions of Windows, as well as almost all popular Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE. It’s our current preferred way to create Linux Live CDs and USB drives.
Rufus is very easy to use and the program looks like the default format window shown in Windows when you format a hard disk partition, USB drive, or other external drive.
In addition to Windows and Linux systems, you can also use Rufus to put utilities on USB drives, such as Parted Magic, Ultimate Boot CD, and BartPE.
UNetbootin
UNetbootin is a free program for both Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X that allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for Ubuntu, Fedora, and other Linux distributions instead of burning a CD. It runs on both Windows and Linux. Either use UNetbootin to download one of the many Linux distributions it supports or provide the location of your own Linux ISO file.
NOTE: The resulting USB drive is only bootable on PCs, not Macs. In addition, UNetbootin isn’t as reliable as it once was—we now recommend one of the other tools mentioned here, like Rufus.
Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator
The Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator allows you to convert a USB flash drive or SD card into a drive from which you can run your Ubuntu system. You don’t have to dedicate the whole drive to the Ubuntu system. You can store other files in the remaining space.
The program also allows you to create a drive for Debian, or any other Debian-based OS for which you have a CD or .iso image.
Universal USB Installer
Universal USB Installer is a program that allows you to choose from several Linux distributions to install on a USB flash drive. Select the Linux distribution, provide a location for the appropriate ISO file, select your USB flash drive, and click Create.
NOTE: The USB flash drive must be formatted as a Fat16, Fat32, or NTFS drive.
WiNToBootic
WiNToBootic is another free tool that allows you to create a bootable USB flash drive for installing Windows 7 or Windows 8. It supports an ISO file, a DVD, or a folder as the boot disk source. It’s a standalone tool that doesn’t require installation and it operates very fast.
Note: this tool doesn’t appear to be developed anymore.
Windows Bootable Image (WBI) Creator
Update: this tool doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
WBI Creator is a free program that allows you to create a bootable ISO image from Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 setup files. It’s a portable tool that’s easy to use. Simply tell the tool where the Windows setup files are and select a target folder for the new ISO file that will get created. Then, you can use one of the other tools mentioned in this article to setup a bootable USB flash drive or CD/DVD for use in setting up a Windows system.
WinToFlash
Update: we’ve been told by our readers that this application has a lot of adware so we’re removing the link.
WinToFlash is a free, portable tool that allows you to create a bootable USB flash drive from a Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, or Server 2008 installation CD or DVD. It will also transfer a Windows pre-install environments (WinPE), which are handy for troubleshooting and repairs, to a USB flash drive. You can even use WinToFlash to create a MSDOS bootable USB drive.
XBoot
Update: this tool hasn’t been updated in a very long time.
XBoot is a free utility for creating multiboot USB flash drives or ISO image files. This allows you to combine multiple ISO files (Linux, utilities, and antivirus rescue CDs) onto one USB drive or ISO file, allowing you to create a handy utility drive. Simply drag and drop the ISO files onto the XBoot window and click Create ISO or Create USB.

BleepingComputer Review:
The HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool allows you to format a USB Flash drive too FAT, FAT32, and NTFS file systems. It also allows you to create a DOS startup disk, but this is not very useful with modern versions of Windows.
Even though this tool is from 2014, it is still widely recommended by Flash drive manufacturers as the suggested tool to format USB Drives. It should be noted that you need to run the program with Administrative privileges for it to work properly.

Most users are satisfied with the hard drive utilities that ship with Windows--especially the more powerful partitioning and defragging tools found in Windows Vista and 7. Since you're reading this, though, you're obviously not a 'most' type of user. Here are our ten favorite free utilities for partitioning, monitoring, and optimizing hard drives (as well as a few inexpensive for-pay alternatives). Despite offering some high-end features, these downloadable programs won't bust your budget.
(For links to all of the downloads in one convenient list, see our '10 Best Free Hard-Drive Utilities' collection.)
Partitioning
Microsoft's DiskPart--included for free on each Vista or Windows 7 installation disc--is a perfectly viable tool for manipulating FAT and NTFS partitions, but only if you're in a command-line kind of mood. The vast majority of the time, I want something fast and graphical that supports all file systems.
Of all the partition utilities I've reviewed, Parted Magic (now in version 6) remains my top pick--not only because it has the free Gnome partition tool (GParted), but also because it has Memtest86+. I'd say that I encounter about one memory problem for every three hard drive problems, so it's nice to have that memory-diagnostic tool around.
If you don't need memory testing, or if you just want an alternative Linux partitioning boot disc, GParted Live is a slightly lighter-weight boot disc that also supports booting from a USB flash drive or an external hard drive. You need to visit the command prompt twice during the boot process, but I have on occasion found that GParted Live boots when the Parted Magic disc will not--and vice versa.
Offering an extremely small footprint and very quick boots, Partition Logic seems to work fine, at least with internal IDE drives. My other favorite freebie is Easeus Partition Manager Home: It's professional in appearance and has all the features I generally need.
SMART (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology)
Today's hard drives have a self-analysis feature that keeps tabs on the drive's health. Unfortunately, although many BIOSs will relay the basic 'Hey, I'm okay (or not)' information to you when you boot the PC, Windows 7 doesn't provide a way to access the details. Several capable utilities allow you to view the information.
If you love the command line, SMART Monitoring Tools might be for you. In a DOS box, entering smartctl -a sda
(or sdb
, sdc
, or the like) will tell you everything you need to know about your hard drive's SMART status--if you can read the sometimes overlapping information.
A better tool for viewing SMART information is Passmark's DiskCheckup. It's free, and you run it only when necessary--it doesn't have any background services sucking up CPU cycles. If you don't run your PC around the clock, this is a better approach. My absolute favorite, though, is the free version of HD Tune; it not only reports drive health (not specified as SMART but the same information nonetheless) but also tests drive performance and scans for disk errors.
If you need constant Windows monitoring for a 24/7 PC, you'll have to pay for a program such as Ariolic Software's Active Smart 2.9 ($30) or LSoft Technologies' Active Hard Disk Monitor ($6 and $15 Pro flavors).
Defragging and Optimizing
In days past (the age of FAT16 and FAT32), regularly defragging a hard drive made a noticeable difference in the speed with which it loaded applications and data--now, not as much. Even so, optimization--placing large, often-used files such as Outlook .pst files in the quickest-to-load location on your hard drive--can speed things up. (For more about the defrag debate, see 'Defragging: Why, How, and Whether.')
One great choice for optimization is an older public-domain version (1.72) of DiskTrix's excellent UltimateDefrag (though that version is now impossible to find at the vendor's site). Despite its age, it still has all the features anyone could want, including the ability to choose individual files to move for faster access.
The Smart Defrag utility has few user-configurable settings--you rely on the program's logic to automatically optimize your drive. It also shows an ad here or there, but the program works well and is smart enough to know that you can't optimize an SSD. UltraDefrag is another very capable defragging and optimizing program that you can run from a command prompt if you so desire.
Disk Usage
If you have no idea what's on your hard drive, or how much of it exists, you have a fascinating and visually appealing way to find out--Disk Space Fan. That isn't fan as in fanatic, but as in the device for moving air. In this case you browse and tunnel down into the data on your hard drive by clicking on a graphic that resembles a fan. The pro features (finding duplicates, delete, move, and so on) are enabled for 15 days; after that, you'll need to pony up $20 to do anything but view. Even without those features, however, the free version is neat. Really. Download it.
What can an SD card format tool do for you
Under normal circumstances, you can free format an SD memory card, USB flash drive, external hard drive or some other storage devices with Windows built-in disk management tool easily. But in some complex cases, you might need a third-party SD card format software to help you do this job successfully. Here we list some such cases:
- Fix sd card not formatted error for reuse
- Repair corrupted, unrecognized or inaccessible SD card
- Change file system, raw to NTFS, FAT32 to NTFS, etc.
- Restore SD card to original size or full capacity
- Remove write-protection of the SD card
- Clean up unknown malware or virus
